They have decided that with the new world, and all the heroes on it, they are redundant and it is time for them to disband. Just as Hawkman is officially pronouncing that dissolution, they are interrupted by the Spectre, who is horribly injured. He passes information on to Dr. Fate, before disappearing for good.

The message he leaves behind him is literally apocalyptic. The earth ended in 1945, just after the burial of President Roosevelt. Hitler has decided that if he can not survive, the German people can not either. He uses the Spear of Destiny to call down destruction on the entire world. The JSA is shown what happened, the sky opening up, their attempt to get to Berlin, their deaths at the hands of German soldiers, and the final end of not only the earth, but the entire universe. They wonder how they can be there if the world ended, but suddenly, the sky opens up, just as in their vision. The end of the universe has been traveling through time and has arrived in the present.

Dr. Fate quickly gathers the heroes up in a spell, and they travel back in time, to the day things ended in 1945. He keeps them intangible, so they are unable to affect what happens to their earlier selves, but he has a different plan. When Hitler starts to use the Spear, the JSA follows along with it, to another world. There, they find the Norse gods are about to experience Ragnorok, the end of their lives. Hitler has managed to drain power from the Spectre and tied the existence of the universe itself into the fate of Asgard. Fate uses spells to merge the JSA members with various Asgardian gods, with their added power helping the gods. Even so, many of them meet their destinies as written, until only a few are left standing.

Then Surtur the fire giant arrives, more powerful than any of the gods and determined to wipe the earth clean of life. Dr. Fate then finishes his plan, casting a spell that creates a time loop and bringing the dead JSA members back to life to defeat Surtur, and start the entire battle over again. He explains to Star-Spangled Kid and Power Girl that the JSA must remain there battling forever in order to keep the universe from ending. Then he sends them back to the real world, before joining his comrades, only to be confronted by the fading remnants of the Spectre. The Spectre sends Fate back to the real world also, where the 3 remaining members of the JSA are left to explain to Infinity, Inc. what has happened to their parents and mentors.

Genres: Action | Adventure | Super-Heroes

Characters: Flash (Jay Garrick) | Green Lantern (Alan Scott) | Wildcat (Ted Grant) | Power Girl (Kara / Karen Zor-L / Starr) | Dr. Fate (Kent Nelson) | Obsidian (Todd Rice) | Atom (Al Pratt) | Hourman (Rex Tyler) | Superman (Earth-2) (Kal-L / Clark Kent) | Sandman (DC Comics) (Wesley Dodds) | Starman (Ted Knight) | Dr. Mid-Nite (Charles McNider)

From a long-time collector's personal collection. There, Doctor Occult uses a mystic symbol to reach the essence of Doctor Fate and the Spectre, both consumed by Stalker when it was summoned. There is suffering and anguish from the visions before Johnny Thunder has Yz return them to the symbol. But Doctor Occult locates Stalker in Antarctica. There, Stalker converses with the souls he has consumed, explaining that he has killed gods. They counter that he might have murdered a facet here or there, but that the Almighty shines on. Perhaps, Stalker replies, he will finally succeed when he destroys the world and goes to his own rest. He goes to supervise his machine, which he built to overload the sun. When the heroes arrive, Stalker reanimates 70 million year old dinosaur skeletons to battle then; Green Lantern and Starman see what they can do about the sun killer. They discover the engine, a four dimensional object transposed into three dimensional space, but cannot defeat its defenses. Doctor Occult has a plan: Johnny Thunder will protect his body while he projects his soul astrally. Finally, Mister Terrific discovers a tiny flaw in the engine, a chip. He launches a buffalo nickle at it. Just as the engine begins to shake and shudder, Doctor Occult drives his soul into Stalkers! The heroes are falling one by one, but this assault frees Doctor Fate! Fate explains that Stalker's power is derived from order, and Hourman understands why his future self traveled backwards in time to give his past self the hourglass. He smashes the hourglass and Stalker regresses through his timeline to the man he was, undoing his murders and attacks! Fifty later during Zero Hour, Extant stole the JSA's youth, but a younger version of Hourman appears again. He is a machine, programmed with Rex Tyler's genetic material and memories. He shows his dying progenitor a glimpse of the future. As a new age dawns for the Justice Society, Rex dies a happy man...

Genres: Action | Adventure | Super-Heroes

Characters: Flash (Jay Garrick) | Hawkman (Carter Hall) | Green Lantern (Alan Scott) | Wildcat (Ted Grant) | Dr. Fate (Kent Nelson) | Hourman (Rick Tyler) | Spectre (Jim Corrigan) | Atom (Al Pratt) | Hourman (Rex Tyler) | Sandman (DC Comics) (Wesley Dodds) | Starman (Ted Knight) | Dr. Mid-Nite (Charles McNider)

From a long-time collector's personal collection. Suspicious over a threat on the Green Arrow's life, each member of the Justice League decide to secretly learn what threat Green Arrow is talking about by taking on his guise -- all except for Wonder Woman, who tries to pose as Green Arrow, but realizes that she could hardly pass for the Emerald Archer.

Batman, disguised as Green Arrow and modifying his Batmobile to look like the Arrowcar drives about Gotham City when he happens upon the Penguin leaving the scene of a robbery. Attacking his old foe, Batman is easily defeated by his enemy, who magically changes his appearance to look like Green Arrow, while Batman himself is changed into the Penguin and is arrested. The same happens to Martian Manhunter when he tries to stop Dr. Light, Superman tackles Lex Luthor, the Green Lantern against the Tattooed Man, Aquaman against Charlie Cutlass, the Flash against Captain Boomerang, and Hawkman against I.Q..

Suspecting what is going on all along, Green Arrow decides to trail the Atom because he is the only one that hasn't been "switched" with a foe and incarcerated. When the Atom confronts Jason Woodroe as "Green Arrow" the crook tries to do the same thing, however Oliver Queen is on site to knock him out. Shortly after, the imprisoned JLAers suddenly change back to their normal forms and are freed from jail. Answering a call to JLA headquarters, they arrive to find Green Arrow with Dr. Destiny in his custody. Green Arrow explains how Destiny tried to infiltrate the JLA headquarters by posing as the Green Arrow using his Materioptikon to make himself appear as Green Arrow and the Arrow to appear as Destiny and get arrested. However, the effects soon wore off and Green Arrow rushed to JLA headquarters and realized that perhaps one of the members was really Destiny in disguise and so he set about this whole chain of events to try and capture Destiny.

Reviving, Destiny boasts that he has an ace up his sleeve: While he was using Materioptikon duplicates against the JLA at first, he had stashed and hidden the REAL villains in their headquarters and unleashes them on the JLA. Set loose to wander the semi-sentient Aquarius would find himself drawn to Earth-Two.

Meanwhile, on Earth-One, the Justice League of America has time to finally listen to why the Red Tornado has travelled to Earth-One. He explains to them the events which have recently unfolded on Earth-Two: One night Ted Knighter would observe the arrival of Aquarius through his telescope. Finding the star mass suspicious he would change into his identity of Star Man and go to investigate. The creature would be drawn to Star Man's Star Rod and would take it from the hero using it to incapacitate him. As it would happen, Dinah Drake and her husband Larry Lance would be coming by to bring Ted a meal when suddenly Star Man would fall in front of them, prompting Dinah to change into the Black Canary. Before she can do anything Larry suddenly goes mad for a brief moment and tries to attack her. Realizing that this is a bigger problem than she can handle she calls in members of the Justice Society to come to her aid. Answering her call are Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Dr. Fate, and Dr. Mid-Nite.

A long the way each hero has to fight off a difference menace created by Aquarius: Green Lantern battles an animated florescent light, Dr. Mid-Night has to deal with a temperamental child suddenly gifted with super-human strength, and Dr. Fate has to fight a flaming raincloud. Green Lantern, Dr. Fate and Dr. Mid-Night arrive on the scene just in time to witness Aquarius use the Star Rod to restore his original strength and personality and they are shocked to find that he is a psycho path who wishes to create disorder all over the globe before destroying the universe. At this moment Superman, Wonder Woman and Red Tornado showed up on the scene. When Superman tries to stop Aquarius, the Man of Steel is knocked out by a blast of magic from the star rod.

Aquarius then uses his powers to erase the Earth-Two dimension, however Dr. Fate manages to erect a mystical sphere protecting the Justice Society, Larry and Red Tornado from being destroy. Telling the others that the universe can be restored as long as they remember its existence they send Red Tornado to travel off to Earth-One to get the Justice League for help, leaving the rest of the JSA and Aquarius in a deadlock, the star creature mocking Dr. Fate's longevity in maintaining the force field that keeps them alive.

Finishing his story, the Justice League are horrified to realize that these events happened two weeks ago, and that perhaps it's already to late to save their comrades and the Earth-Two universe.

Genres: Action | Adventure | Super-Heroes

Characters: Batman (Bruce Wayne) | Superman (Kal-El / Clark Kent) | Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) | Flash (Barry Allen) | Green Lantern (Alan Scott) | Atom (Ray Palmer) | Hawkman (Katar Hol) | Dr. Fate (Kent Nelson) | Red Tornado (John Smith) | Superman (Earth-2) (Kal-L / Clark Kent) | Starman (Ted Knight) | Dr. Mid-Nite (Charles McNider)

From a long-time collector's personal collection. As the Justice Society of Earth-Two tries to figure out what happened to their comrades, the Justice League of Earth-One have learned of the crisis prompting their teammate Black Canary to believe that she is the cause since she crossed over from Earth-Two.

The alien attackers seeking to incapacitate the entire Justice Society send more devices to trip up the heroes. While on Earth-One, the JLA decide to investigate things further sending Green Lantern back out into the void between universes to learn the truth. Back on Earth-One, Hawkman is dispatched to maintain order when suddenly everyone's Earth-Two counterparts begin materializing on Earth-One once more. After saving an old lady, Hawkman is also struck down because his Earth-Two counterpart is incapacitated by the alien devices.

Just as Green Lantern of Earth-One finds the source of the disruption, the Red Tornado, he is also immobilized because his Earth-Two counterpart is trapped in a wooden cage by his attackers. Back on Earth-One, the Atom, Green Arrow and Black Canary await to hear back from Green Lantern. The Black Canary continues to believe that she is the cause and contemplates committing suicide by the JLA Satellite's teleporter, hoping that would save the universe. While on Earth-Two, Johnny Thunder, the Thunderbolt, and Dr. Fate manage to fight off the alien devices. Fate decides it's time to call in the Spectre for assistance and the trio teleport to the graveyard where the Spectre dwells. The apparition agrees to help the remaining JSA members and the foursome travel to the dimensional void to see what the source of the problem is. There they find Earth-One's Green Lantern and the Red Tornado.

While the Spectre stretches his body and acts as a barrier between the two realities, Dr. Fate, Johnny Thunder and the Thunderbolt are teleported to Creator2's ship where they fight the insane alien. During the fight, the Thunderbolt destroys Creator2's devices, stopping the process and freeing the Red Tornado. With Creator2's ship also destroyed, the two Earth's return to their original position however the Spectre is seemingly slain in the process. Back on Earth-One the JLA realize the crisis is over which brings both Green Arrow and the Black Canary great joy. With the danger passed they also find that Batman, Superman, Flash and Hawkman have revived. When Green Lantern returns to Earth-One to brief the heroes on what happened, they all mourn the passing of the Spectre, however Green Arrow doesn't think it is the last they've seen of him.

Genres: Action | Adventure | Super-Heroes

Characters: Batman (Bruce Wayne) | Superman (Kal-El / Clark Kent) | Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) | Flash (Barry Allen) | Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) | Flash (Jay Garrick) | Hawkman (Carter Hall) | Green Lantern (Alan Scott) | Atom (Ray Palmer) | Black Canary (Dinah Lance) | Hawkman (Katar Hol) | Dr. Fate (Kent Nelson)

From a long-time collector's personal collection. An experimental weapon in his arsenal had accidentally exploded, transforming his boy partner, Sandy, into a gigantic monster. Overcome with guilt, Sandman had destroyed his purple and gold costume, which had constantly reminded him of Sandy's plight. Imprisoning the monstrous boy in a chamber which held him unconscious, he had returned to action in his old gas-mask and double-breasted suit. Now, however, the Sandy-creature has escaped his cage, and the two teams combine to recapture him. He evades Superman, Hourman, and Elongated Man at an outdoor wedding, tangles with Batman, the Flash, and the Earth-2 Wonder Woman at a ball game, and finally battles Green Lantern and Sandman himself at a beach. The eight heroes unite to subdue him at last, only to learn that he had been acting to prevent a series of earth tremors at the sites of their battles. Having only now regained his lost power of speech, "Sandy" reveals that the menacing attitude he had evinced when first changed to monstrous form had only been a temporary side-effect, and a chagrined Sandman realizes that he had kept his partner imprisoned for years for no reason.

"The Case of the Patriotic Crimes": The Wizard, after escaping from jail, steals the Liberty Train without a trace. He dreams of making crime triumphant on earth, and forms a new Injustice Society, recruiting the Fiddler, the Huntress, the Icicle, the Sportsmaster, and the Harlequin. The members hold a contest to determine which of them will be the leader, with the one who commits the greatest robbery to be the winner. The members plan thefts of American patriotic objects: the Freedom Bell, Plymouth Rock, Old Ironsides, and the Washington Monument, while the Harlequin plans to trap the Justice Society of America. However, when the Harlequin drops her diary, the Injustice Society learns that Green Lantern's "enemy" has no intention of joining the group, but she intends to betray them. The Sportsmaster follows her to the JSA headquarters. When the Harlequin alerts the JSA to the villains' plan, the Sportsmaster launchs a grenade in the form of a lacrosse ball that fells the entire group.

Black Canary, investigating the Liberty Train theft, tries to call an emergency meeting of the Justice Society, but finds their headquarters empty. She discovers the knocked out Harlequin under a table, undetected by the Sportsmaster, who lugged the rest of the JSA members back to ISW headquarters. As the Harlequin begins to explain what happened, the Icicle attacks and captures the pair. At Injustice Society headquarters, the two see the brainwashed JSA working as slaves for the villains. Before they could join their comrades in slavery, the Harlequin hypnotizes the Justice Society with her glasses and orders them to remember who they are. The revived JSA members set off in to prevent the robberies of the American treasures. Unfortunately, the Harlequin's hypnosis in only temporary, and the heroes will return to a mindless state with the snap of fingers. Knowing this fact, also, the Wizard sets off to warn the other members of the Injustice Society.

awkman draws the assignment to protect Old Ironsides. The Sportsmaster creates a diversion, then steals the boat using portable rockets. The Hawkman chases him down, then knocks him out with one punch. However, the Wizard arrives, snaps his fingers, returning Hawkman to his trance. Then, Hawkman helps the trio sail Old Ironsides back to their hideout. Wonder Woman and Doctor Mid-Nite arrive at the Freedom Bell to find the Fiddler's theft already in progress. They defeat him and tie him up, but having already been contacted by the Wizard, the Fiddler snaps his fingers, then orders Wonder Woman and Dr. Mid-Nite to help him steal the Freedom Bell. The Huntress steals Plymouth Rock by having elephants load it into a circus van. The Flash and Atom overtake the van, then tie up the Huntress. Unable to snap, she jumps on a wooden board to snap it, which successfully enslaves Flash and Atom. The Icicle steals the Navy's new super jet, then uses it to lasso the Washington Monument, lassoing Green Lantern in the process. The Icicle's cold gun and Green Lantern's ring cancel each other out, so the Green Lantern uses his ring to return the monument, then punches out the Icicle. Ironically, the Green Lantern snaps, returning himself to his slave state. Harlequin and Black Canary track down the Liberty Train, but the Wizard arrives, electrocutes, and captures them.

To ensure the JSA will no longer threaten them, the ISW drops them and the Harlequin to their deaths into a deep mine shaft. Then, to determine who won the contest, the villains steal Gotham Stadium during a baseball game, planning to ask the crowd of captured Americans to vote on who committed the best theft. Trapped in the bowels of the earth, the Black Canary and Harlequin work feverishly to convince the JSA of their true identities. With constant urging, the two convince Green Lantern to employ his ring, freeing the JSA from their stupor. The team then rockets up the shaft and confront the ISW, who have reached a murderous level of frustration with their captives. Surprising the villains, the heroes quickly round up the team. They deposit the ISW in jail. In the confusion, Harlequin slips away. Returning to headquarters the Justice Society inducts Black Canary as a member.

(This story is reprinted from All-Star Comics #41.)

"The Cavern of Deadly Spheres!": A new criminal named the Maestro has been pulling off crimes by arming his hired thugs with musical instruments that compel all in ear-shot to uncontrollably dance. After each member of the League successfully stop each heist, they decide to take their fight directly to the Maestro himself.

Tracking the Maestro to his hidden cave headquarters, all of the JLA members are trapped in indestructible bubbles (ex. Superman's is made out of Kryptonite). However, it is revealed that this tale came from a fan of the Justice League that challenged himself with imagining how the Justice League might be defeated.

The Justice League answers the challenge and imagines how they might counter their fan's scenario. In the end Atom finds the weakness in the imaginary villain, and they anticipate that Maestro might have access to Superman's weakness. So, in the imaginary tale, the team coats Superman in lead in advance allowing him limited protection to the Kryptonite bubble. While the Maestro is busy gloating over his victory, Superman is able to break free and save the others, and they all easily defeat the Maestro and turn him over to the police.

Once the solution is reached Snapper is tasked with logging the story and sending the Justice League's fan word of how his favorite heroes could even foil his perfect "plan."

(This story is reprinted from Justice League of America #16.)

Genres: Action | Adventure | Super-Heroes

Characters: Batman (Bruce Wayne) | Superman (Kal-El / Clark Kent) | Wonder Woman (Diana Prince) | Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) | Flash (Barry Allen) | Martian Manhunter (J'onn J'onzz) | Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) | Flash (Jay Garrick) | Hawkman (Carter Hall) | Green Lantern (Alan Scott) | Atom (Ray Palmer) | Black Canary (Dinah Lance)

From a long-time collector's personal collection. Journeying back to J'onzz's world via a space-warp chamber, Superman, Atom, Flash, and Green Lantern are also defeated by Korge, until they hit upon the idea of using the warper mechanism to exchange powers and confuse their foe. Fanum calls in the Justice Society to help protect him. Black Canary asks Fanum if they can read the script to look for clues, but Fanum tells them that he only has half the script. Fanum recalls the story where masked, armed man broke into his house, giving him only part of the script, promising to mail him the rest of the script later. Doctor Mid-Nite hypothesizes that the script is a true story, and Evil Star must be the czar of all the Hollywood rackets, who is attempting to stop the movie from being made, because it will expose his true identity. Hawkman decides that the film must be made, and gives the members their assignments.

Flash and Doctor Mid-Nite pose as actors, protecting a location shoot where bandits raid a hotel resort. Evil Star's gang, replace of the actors, then try to force the crew off a steep slope. The JSA duo reveal themselves and defeat Evil Star's gang, but Evil Star subdues them with the help of prop movie smoke. Wonder Woman and Hawkman watch over a police chase scene on a boat. They notice that the movie cops have real clubs and guns, and not props. Knowing something is wrong, they defuse a bomb, and defeat the phony cops. Evil Star appears, then runs away, springing a trap on the duo with more movie props. Black Canary and the Atom who have stayed behind at the studio, are watching over Fanum. Fanum is meeting with Guy Pompton, the owner of a movie rental agency, who supplies studios with props. After Pompton leaves, Fanum, Atom, and Black Canary chase after him with one last business question. They can't find him, but they do find the chief studio chemist knocked out, and all of the studio's silver missing. Atom spots Evil Star making a getaway, and Atom and Black Canary chase him through the studio, however, Evil Star leads them into an ambush, and his gang subdues them both.

Green Lantern follows the postmark from the script envelope to see if he can find the script writer and learn of Evil Star's true identity. He finds a ghost town, with only one resident. The man tells Green Lantern that the town was supposed to be a second Hollywood, but no movies were ever made. Searching the studio, Green Lantern finds the author, who tells him nervously that the whole story is false. Green Lantern doesn't believe him and finds and captures Evil Star. Evil Star uses a sound playback machine to distract GL, and knocks him out. All seven members find themselves in the front row of a theater, tied to the trigger of a knife throwing machine, with seven knives aimed at each of their hearts. At Green Lantern's suggestion, they all move simultaneously, and dodge the knives. Returning to the studio, they accuse Guy Pompton of being Evil Star, offering to show a copy of the last page of the movie script as proof. Guy Pompton becomes Evil Star and his gang rushes the room. During both heroes fights, they are shocked to find their opponents suddenly go from being evil to being good. Traveling to JLA headquarters, the JLA members are shocked to learn that all over the world every human being is ending conflict and turning to peace.

Helm's achieved world peace is only short lived however when his machine malfunctions and suddenly the world erupts into total chaos and violence. Having been out of his physical body too long, Helm finds that he is trapped and cannot shut down the device. However, he manages to get the Justice League to go to his island base and fight off the nightmare generated devices in order to shut the machine down. Unfortunately, the Anarchist overcomes the League and succeeds in his plan.Elsewhere, Green Lantern wakes in the middle of the night to find him charging his ring. Questioning his ring, he learns that it cannot tell him who is making him charge it and heads off to find the culprit. In Metropolis, Clark Kent attends a rally of a faith healer called Simon Ellis and is surprised when a friend of his has his broken leg healed by Ellis. After the show, Superman follows Ellis, suspecting him of being tied to The Anarchist and summons the League for help. As they attempt to question Ellis, Green Lantern's power ring strikes the other Leaguers who then vanish along with Ellis just as the world leaders and the Anarchist had.Lantern tells Superman about the problem with waking to charge his ring and they deduce that Ellis has been siphoning off Lantern's power. As they try to drain the ring of power they find nothing works and the only way to prevent Lantern from recharging it is for Superman to knock him unconcious. With the Anarchist's power shut off, the rest of the League find and capture him, revealing him to be Simon Ellis.

Genres: Action | Adventure | Super-Heroes

Characters: Batman (Bruce Wayne) | Superman (Kal-El / Clark Kent) | Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) | Flash (Barry Allen) | Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) | Black Canary (Dinah Lance) | Elongated Man (Ralph Dibny) | Hawkman (Katar Hol) | Red Tornado (John Smith) | Steve Lombard | Anarchist (Simon Ellis)

From a long-time collector's personal collection.
